Part 1: 2017 School Video
Launched in 2017 and driven by the vision of our CEO, the “Knives Take Lives” initiative began with a focused intervention across schools in Lancashire. Six schools participated in an engaging Dragon’s Den-style competition, presenting innovative ideas to local leaders and the Chief Inspector of the Constabulary. Corpus Christi High School emerged as the winner, leading to the creation of a recorded theatre production that raised awareness about knife crime.
To celebrate this achievement, we hosted a Winners Celebratory Award Show attended by the local mayor, police officers, and representatives from all participating schools. The event, which attracted over 110 attendees, received regional media coverage, showcasing the initiative’s impact and recognition. You can watch the inspiring video from the prize-winning team at Corpus Christi Catholic High School on our YouTube channel.
Part 2: 2021 PSHE Curriculum Pack
Building on the momentum from our initial success, we launched a PSHE curriculum programme that ran for two years, engaging local children from a pupil referral school. This programme was designed to inform and educate young people about the dangers of carrying knives. Its effectiveness caught the attention of the Crime Commissioner and his team, resulting in further funding to develop a national school toolkit on knife crime awareness. Launched in 2021, this toolkit has been rolled out across schools nationwide, adapting to the challenges posed by Covid-19.
Through the “Knives Take Lives” initiative, we aimed to empower young people and build safer communities by addressing the serious issue of knife crime with creativity, collaboration, and commitment.
